What is the computer monitor resolution of 1280x1024 compared to TV resolution?

i am getiing a digital box from IO and i have a tc card on my computer. I am planning on hooking up the box to my computer. But i want to know if i put on the hd channels that are provided by the tv company will i see the shows in hd like 720p or 1080p or i resolution on my 1280x1024 resolution monitor? What is the computer monitor resolution of 1280x1024 compared to TV resolution?
When you use a tuner capture card, the only HD channels you can tune into are the local channels (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, PBS, etc.).

You will NOT be able to tune into any of the QAM-encrypted pay HD channels like Discovery HD, HBO HD, CNN HD, etc. No computer tuner/capture card can decode QAM due to copyright restrictions.

Those unencrypted local channels you can see will be broadcast in 1080i, but your video card will shrink it down to 720p because that's the only HD resolution your 1280x1024 monitor is capable of displaying.

As far as the pay channels are concerned, with a tuner/capture card you can only tune into the standard-definition (i.e. 480i low-definition) versions of those channels.

What happens if you get a new computer and need to transfer all of your music from iTunes?

What if you have a BUNCH of music, albums, songs, videos, etc. on a computer, but you're getting a new computer and need to transfer all of the content? I know you can easily log in with your iTunes account on a different computer, but that only brings your money over, not all of your music and other things.

So, is the only possible way to transfer everything by burning tons of CDs and putting them on a new library on a different computer? What happens if you get a new computer and need to transfer all of your music from iTunes?
Buy a big flash drive...4GB, 8GB or 16GB depending on what you can afford. What happens if you get a new computer and need to transfer all of your music from iTunes?
burn cds or if you can burn DVDs. If you could burn DVDs they have like 1-2 Gigs. Note if you burn DVDs even DVD-RWs iTunes won't let you burn anything more to the disk. So I recommend you don't buy anything more after you burn the disk. Then you could buy on your new computer.

What is the difference between computer science and computer programming?

Somebody please explain this in terms I can understand.

I want to do something in computers when I grow up. I like programming but would like to know more.

What is the different between a computer scientist and computer programmer? Don't they overlap in certain ways? What is the difference between computer science and computer programming?
Well definitions are never clear.

Computer science is the study of all things computers - the hardware inside, the software that runs it, the networks that it runs on, etc.

Computer programming is part of computer science - it involves the software it runs - and usually the development of it.

So, technically speaking, computer programming is a subset/part of computer science.

I have a degree in computer science. I would say the majority of my courses were around how to program - in different languages. I also took courses in databases, networks, and other things.

The best thing to do is check your local universities and colleges to determine what they offer as part of their 'computer science degree'.

  • What are good computer specs to build a computer for a graphic design purpose?

I am getting into the graphic design industry and am looking at building my own computer for it. What are some good mother boards? I know the 64 bit systems are good. Possibly AMD or Intel. This computer is going to be used with Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver, and Flash. Which at times I could be having them all open at the same time. I would prefer that they do not make the machine drag to much. What would be a good motherboard, graphics card, processor, hard drive(preferably Seagate). What are good computer specs to build a computer for a graphic design purpose?
Many people have different preferences on motherboard manufacturers. Going with a 64 bit operating system will allow you to use more ram. You will want 6-8GB of ram. Which processor you use will depend more on budget, brand being a personal preference. Obviously, the faster, the better, and the more expensive (typically.) You would have to match the motherboard to the processor. As for hard drives, SAS drives are faster and more reliable, and more expensive. If you want to use SAS drives, then you might want a motherboard that supports them. Hard drive manufacturers are more of a personal preference, but you will want a performance one (versus a "green" energy efficient one.)You will want to run RAID to get the best performance. RAID 0 is fast, RAID 10 (aka 0+1) is fast and redundant (data protection.) You will want a motherboard that supports that. As for the graphics card, that will depend on budget, and may change what motherboard you want. You might go with SLI or Crossfire. You can go with a single card with dual processors, or 2 or 3 cards.

Try checking out reviews at http://www.tomshardware.com/What are good computer specs to build a computer for a graphic design purpose?
I think that an Asus motherboard, Evga video card, Intel processor and 1gb Seagate are good. You can build a computer at tigerdirect.comWhat are good computer specs to build a computer for a graphic design purpose?
looks like you need configurations for a workstation.

you can refer these specs with your dealer or someone you know, before purchasing and you can spend or save accordingly.here's what i say:

intel comes with good processors, and be very careful in selecting the motherboard.see whether you can get the same board for the same processor, as motherboards are mostly processor specific.this means if you choose an entirely different motherboard you need another processor.so think in detail on that one.

a 3 to 4 gb ram module will do fine.a 2 x 2gb will be fine when compared to a 1 x 4gb module, in case it is down.

a range of 320gb, 500gb, 750gb or 1tb hard drives are available. if you need seagate, the barracuda series are available.

a standard or a bit of high end can be chosen for keyboard-mouse combos and speakers. a good quality headphone can replace the speakers as well, if you have any sound projects, or interests in music.

the graphic card mart provides a very wide selection.choose a g-force or ati radeon series from a reputed brand only. bad ones can cause power loss, fast heat ups and system driver problems.a 512mb or 768 mb will provide good performance.

provide a cooling system to the cpu box if you can.

finally, choose a monitor which seems okay with you.this one also, choose the best brand available.

make sure you get the best available optical drive and front and rear usb ports as well.

    hope this will help.

My computer is telling me i have a critically low amount of space left. What can i delete?

Basically I have an Windows XP, and i'm running out of space on my computer. The only things i need to keep are my music from iTunes, which are saved in random locations, some pictures that are also scattered throughout, and anything that's required to open files, and of course the microsoft office programs. Also, i have sever users on the computer which i can delete, but i'm afraid my music's file location is on one of the other user's account, which i'm afraid to delete.

    Any help!

Thanks. My computer is telling me i have a critically low amount of space left. What can i delete?
First of all, back up the iTunes library to DVDs using iTunes built in backup command.

As far as what is safe to delete, we don;t know. especially if you have data files randomly scattered.

Sweep your machine clean of viruses and spyware

Delete old programs that you never use.

Delete the c**pware that comes from the computer manufacturer that you never use. A small program, PCDecrapifier http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/ can help in removing the excess programs that manufacturers load your hard drive up with.

Consider upgrading to a new larger, faster hard drive. Hard drives slow down dramatically as they fill up,

Optimizing a desktop computer and explaining its virtues to at-risk high school students?

It seems on the consumer side of the equation, computers are not used to their full capabilities. Computer specs go into great detail with benchmark ratings to power, capacity, speed and so forth. How best can a layman understand the specs? More importantly, what do you do to maximize use of your computer to its fullest capacity? Let's assume it is rated 2 giga hertz.

Thank you so very much.Optimizing a desktop computer and explaining its virtues to at-risk high school students?
To fully utilize the power of ones computer, including unused CPU cycles, there are projects like CPU share and folding@home.

The layman can best understand CPUs by analogy, although it depends on the person. Some will best understand a computers' power by making an analogy to an automobile and engine; others would best understand an analogy to the human mind.

Point being, it's hard to imagine what we're capable of creating when it comes to technology.
There will be more space, and more super computers if you have the right knowledge build one yourself for like 1k of money.

But I'm guessing robots will be made and androids. Will computer industry reach a wall? How will computers look like in the future?
i can see a future of all solid state disk drives. it will all be flash memory instead of a spinning disk.

i can see us talkin to computers instead of using keyboards and mice.

processors will use multiple processors in the future (not just 2 or 4 cores, but probly hundreds).

i can see computers worn as headgear and going everywhere normal clothing goes today.
Well theoretically there is no limit.

For example, even if Hard Drives are limited to X amount of Terabytes, we could simply find ways to build smaller drives so more drives could fit in the same physical space. Additionally, we would probably end up building new drive technologies that can store more data in a smaller physical area and with less problems than a traditional drive. For example newer Solid State Drives provide very fast performance and have no moving parts - they are too expensive right now for the average consumer though.

With processors, you can always add more logical processing cores or add multiple microprocessor chips to the motherboard. Many servers and super computers already take advantage of this, and may for example run 32 processors in parallel to provide unsurpassed processing power. Again, new technologies may allow us to develop new processors that are smaller, don't rely on silicon transistors, use less power and don't get as hot.

The whole way a computer is designed and function may change in the future.

It is possible we may move to quantum computing, or that our computers will no longer work on a binary system for example but instead use a quadinary system (on, off, mostly on, mostly off).

Right now computers are really dumb, they can only do EXACTLY what we tell them to do and they can't process data on their own without explicit instructions.

Some advanced computer companies are working on computers that actually simulate the synapse network of the brain, so a computer can be used to interpret large sets of data using simulated "brain power".Will computer industry reach a wall? How will computers look like in the future?
Till end of this year the same like.

What computer languages and techniques should I learn in order to create a highly profitable website?

The website, would have members, host audio and video files, make transactions, and probably more. Basically I want to learn how to construct a professional website in my garage, all the setups required, all knowledge that needs to be learned ect鈥? Where is a good place to start? I am already learning HTML and purchased Dreamweaver. I think I鈥檓 going to need to learn some computer programming languages as well. What are the popular programming languages that create small software applications for the web?? What knowledge needs to be learned to start up a computer server in your garage?? Please don鈥檛 respond with going to college and getting a degree, I know there is plenty of information on the internet and in books for the knowledge to be learnedWhat computer languages and techniques should I learn in order to create a highly profitable website?
You should focus on the following:

    a) XHTML and CSS. Coding a site using these makes it more searchable. You can learn these at http://www.w3schools.com/ or go to the www standards web site at http://www.w3.org/ (this may be lil complex reading but the best indeed).

    b) How to optimize your site for search engines. Look at http://www.google.com/webmasters Consider making a google site map %26amp; submit to google. The customers reach to your web site from search engines.

    c) Get a UI done from a professional, who understand usability. Or possibily learn it yourself.

    d) To run a e-commerce site or even a normal site, choose a good hosting service. I would recommend Yahoo Samll Business. Look at http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com This will simplify a lot things for you. You dont need to learn complex programming languages to create %26amp; run your site. It makes online transactions a simple affair.

    e) Create a startegy to promote your site. You may like to understand %26amp; try Google AdWrods for the same. THis can really drive some cool traffic to your site.

    f) For e-commerce, the least that you will need is a paypal account or tie-up with a credit card. Again Yahoo Small Business can be of great help.

Best wishes for your new venture...What computer languages and techniques should I learn in order to create a highly profitable website?
Right now, you are going to hear a lot about "AJAX". But, don't worry about AJAX.

What you need is member logins, sessions, etc. What you will need is a server-side scripting laungage and a database. HTML and CSS is only the end, what the user sees.

You have a choice of what langauge and database to go with. But if you want to do it yourself, you will have to learn some real database and website programming. This goes a ways beyond HTML with like Dreamweaver. One plus is, all the langauges are very simula in how they are used and, for the most part, even syntax. Once you have a good grasp of one, you can handle the others.

Which langauge and DB you choose, depends entirely on what your host is running. A good stable host with the right support and DB is going to cost money (unless you want ot host yourself, but then you gotta handle the server, db admin, etc. yourself aswell as bandwidth.) Also, sounds like you want a lot of webspace...that's oging to cost more.

Anyways, In conclusion i'm going to link to the top langauges used for programming websites.

First, Microsoft. Programming ASP Web Applications with the .Net framework, in Visual Basic or C# syntax. Microsoft has it's own SQL Server. This is most expensive hosting, but pretty high-end.

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/webservices/

    http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/netfram鈥?/a>

Java! Another langauge, kindof simular to C in syntax. Java programmers consider it by far the best for web apps. Might be more difficult to find a host, but you probably could get it for a little cheaper than .net.

    http://java.sun.com/products/jsp/

PHP is the freeware way to go. Linux + Apache Server + PHP + MySQL hosts are also the cheapest. This is also the way you'd go if you were to setup your own server for free. PHP is designed to be very simular in syntax with C/ASP.

    http://www.php.net/

    http://www.mysql.com/

I oughta mension PERL. A very popular more oldschool style of scripting. It can give you a lot of control though. Hosting will cost a little more than PHP usually.

http://www.perl.com/.What computer languages and techniques should I learn in order to create a highly profitable website?
There are some really good books out there. Search Amazon for a book on building professional quality websites. CSS is a must.

The other important thing is what platform you want to go with, while you can mix and match a lot of stuff, if you go with windows or Linux as your server base will dictate some of what you will want to learn, like IIS Web server for windows, or Apache for Linux.

As far as languages, ASP.net with C# or VB, PHP, Javascript, and if you are going to use a database, you might want to look at some SQL, you should need only the basics as Dreamweaver will handle a lot of it for you.

Computer programming is just that: writing programs that make computers work. Computer science, on the other hand, is the study of HOW computers work. It's everything from turning sand into silicon (and why that matters) into how electric flow turns computer "gateways" into information.

It takes some knowledge of computer science to be a computer programmer, but one doesn't have to be a computer programmer in order to be a computer scientist. What is the difference between computer science and computer programming?
    Yea,

Programming is just writing software or assignments for the computer to perform.

Computer Science is more related to the inside of Computers, like Harddrives, Ram, CPU, etc.

Though it is really helpful for computer scientists to know programming as well.

    So they do somewhat overlap.

But one thing, it that being a computer scientist itself is a bit more stable occupation than being a sole programmer, as being only a programmer can get outsourced. What is the difference between computer science and computer programming?
They are very similar, but computer science gets into the mathematics behind computer programming. Computer programming is concerned with producing a result application that does something, whereas computer science is concerned with the best way to program.

Did you check your recycle bin? There may be tons of files there including those that you just deleted.

More specifically when it comes to computer gaming and how they run on the server computer. Also can a server computer do everything that a regular computer can do?What is the difference between a server computer and a regular computer?
Basically, servers are designed to use server edition of OSes ... that they have no proper graphics acceleration hardware, but lots of RAM and generally multi core CPUs. a server is really just a pc, it might have multiple larger hard drives with data protection such as raid 5. a good server usually also has multiple XEON processors

My computer is making a grinding noise at start up only?

Every time I turn my computer on, there is a loud grinding noise as it boots up. After the computer is all booted up and at the desktop (meaning, that on my monitor, you can see all of my icons and such) it stops.

My fans all seem to be fine. What could this be and how do I fix it?

Thank you!My computer is making a grinding noise at start up only?
Your fans are likely at fault. I know they seem fine, but they may be having thermal issues. Try running the PC for 15 minutes or so, then REBOOT the PC using the START menu, RESTART sequence.

IF the 'ginding noise' happens again, then your system disk is possibly faling and likely needs to be replaced SOON. A BUSY disk doesn't sound like "GRINDING"

If the 'grinding noise' does not come back, I would venture that one of your fans is failing. It is noisy when COLD, but runs smoothly after warming. Remember, you have most likely 3 fans: CASE, CPU and Video Card GPU fans. Could be any one of those, but check the Video Card fan first since it tends to be the smallest and usually of poorer quality. (Yes, They TOO can be replaced)
Most desktops have at least 3 fans, case, cpu and psu. Possibly another if you have a graphics card. The only other moving parts would be the optical drive(s) and hard drive(s). You can easily eliminate the optical drive by inserting a disc to see if it's the culprit. As for the fans and hard drive, power down, open the case, and while listening closely, power up and see if you can tell where the sound is coming from. The hard drive pretty much sits off by itself, so it should be easy enough to tell if the sound is coming from it.My computer is making a grinding noise at start up only?
Likely your hard drive or fan.

Does the grinding noise also happen when copying large files? If so, then it's the hard drive.

Otherwise, failing/dirty fans are known to switch between making odd noises and not making odd noises.

If you know where the parts are located in your computer, listen more closely to see if you can pinpoint it.
Well ... if you are sure that it isn't one of your fans, then I'd tend to think that it is your hard drive. If it is your hard drive, then that is not good. The hard drive is on it's way out (dying). You will need to back up your files on to CDs or DVDs and then replace your hard drive (before it dies). My computer is making a grinding noise at start up only?
take the covers off and watch how the fans act as the computer starts up . the only moving parts in a computer are the fans and the drive motors. if it is a drive motor you better replace the drive before it goes out completely and you lose all the data.
needs reformatting or at least defrag - it has too many programs starting up at the same time.

What causes my computer to take so long to recognize all the drives?

When I click on "My Computer", the little flashlight goes back and forth searching and searching and finally after several minutes shows my drives. Sometimes, even then, it does not recognize portable storage devices connected to a USB port. This problem began several months ago, but before that, as soon as I double-clicked "My Computer", the drive icons would show up. My computer is about 3 years old. What causes my computer to take so long to recognize all the drives?
... ive had that problem before and i think its motherboard driver related ...i never pinned it down and i think its a compound problem relating to bios and driver corruption ... a reformat will fix it probably.

What causes my computer to take so long to recognize all the drives?
it's really hard to say, if you have recently installed new software, it may be conflicking with other programs, you may have a virus, try using the disk defrag occasionally.
try some of the tips from

    http://yanswers.blogspot.com/2006/10/pc-鈥?/a>

    if the problem remains then

http://yanswers.blogspot.com/2006/10/win鈥?/a>What causes my computer to take so long to recognize all the drives?
Could be many things but three things stand out.

    1. You may need to clean up your system by cleaning up your cache, deleting your Internet temp files, cookies and history. Then doing a check disk and a defrag.

    2. You may have too many programs installed that you don't need and/or you don't use often and you may need to consider of uninstalling some

    3. You may have some kind of a bug in your system that you will need to do a thorough scan to see if and what it may be.

You should also look into your RAM and see if you need to increase it. Another thing that you should consider before you spend any money is to go to Yahoo search and look for the Tuneup Utilities site; download their free trial program and use it to clean up your registry automatically. Furthermore, go into your Device manager and check to see if your drivers are OK or you need to re-install any.

As I said, it could be many little things that contribute to the problem and what I'm recommending is just the beginning of your search till you pinpoint the real cause of the problem.

    Good luck

My computer is about 10 years old and I need a new one. I have been told that all new computers are not set up for dial up internet and that I would have to purchase a modem separately. Can anyone tell me of a computer out there that I can buy that is still compatible with dial up?What new computer is still compatible with dial up internet?
Look for a listing on the computer specifications that say 56k V.92 Modem. If it only says Ethernet, or 10/100 or Network Card, then you will need a separate modem. I believe they make external USB dial up modems that are easy to install.

to remove viruses from your computer you will need a FULL VIRUS SCAN and that requires a CD, or a full version of the program to COMPLETELY remove the virus from your computer. those CD's are pricey so i would sugest you RESTORE your computer jus like you first got it. all your data will be lost but it is way better than having viruses hiding in your computer and killing it slowly but if you want to resotre it as new as u first got it...

when the you turn on the computer QUICKLY hit

Ctrl + F11 and just follow all directions to restore it and wait for your computer to restart then its gonna be as good as neww.

    HOPE I HELPED.
    Maybe, it's your registry?

If you are reading this article then it's fair to say you already know that most of your computer problems or errors are originated from the registry of your system. It is unlikely. Before cleaning up your system you have to know that there are two major causes of the errors which will affect your PC's performance.

You will often find unused files/data saturating your registry if you don't go through the process of uninstalling software when deleting it making your registry unclean. If this is something you perform regularly then you will notice how it affects your computer. One of the possible causes of Registry Crash is an incompatible hardware driver and this could be a far more serious problem. If an error message occurs during the installation of software but you force it to continue installing then this could be the cause of the problem. Then the blue screen of death might appear which is a more serious problem.

Your computer will still slow down gradually even if you always carry out the process of keeping your registry clean and safe and you should be aware of this. Not carrying out routine maintenance for months while using your PC/laptop makes this increasingly likely to take place. Maintenance programs provided by Windows such as disk defragmenter and disk clean up can certainly help you keeping your computer registry organized. By performing maintenance regularly, your computer should perform better although just because it is organized that does not necessarily mean clean. With windows tools, all of those unused files are kept together in a particular space of your disk if you carry out this routine maintenance regularly. If maintenance is never performed on the system then these files are spread all over it.

You may have noticed there are many registry cleaning software packages available on the market, which are created to help you clean this essential part of your computer system. To make sure your computer never runs slow and to ensure you do not become frustrated with the constant errors again, you may perform the scanning every day. Within some versions of registry software programs, many features are provided. Features are given in order to make it more convenient for its users such as a built-in scheduler, junk file cleaner and more. You might end up buying registry software that is not the best quality and this can cause even more errors if you make a buying decision too early.

I would have to strongly recommend that you get avast anti virus because one of the best and it worked for me, but before you download avast you must delete your current anti virus if u have a current anti virus then its okay . It is never good to have to anti virus programs on your computer because if there is a virus in your computer and they locate it they will keep on fighting to see who gets to exterminate it, until it slips away or a nother virus gets through and you computer crashes.Avast is simple and virtually pays for itself and if you don't want to pay for it Find a registration code somewhere and use that but i recommend avast.
Why is my computer slow? I bet you have asked yourself that very question time and time again. And for the most part, you probably just can not figure it out. Ask the guy next to you, and they probably don’t have the foggiest idea either. I mean, you may get the “spyware, virus” answer, but this most likely is not the case.

The first place I check when my computer starts to run slower is the registry. Yes, the registry. Most people don’t even know what, or where the registry is, and especially don’t understand how this can slow a computer down. Let me explain.

Basically, the registry files contain information and settings for all of the software, hardware, operating system software, and anything else running on your computer. Mess any of these files up, and the computer does not know how to function. The computer goes to start up the software, looks for the registry files, and either can not find it or finds something that does not look like it is suppose to look like. It then just sits there: it does not know what to do next. This is where the “hanging” or “locking up” of your computer comes from. These files will need to be fixed.

To fix the registry files, find a good quality registry repair software called registry cleaner and run it on your computer.Top 5 registry cleaners can be found in here:

http://www.make-pc-fast.com/ .It will tell you how many files are corrupted and need to be fixed. Just tell the software to fix it and it restores all of the registry files to their correct configuration. It is really that simple. It may take only about 5 minutes to perform this check. And then as a maintenance item for your computer, I would recommend performing this registry fix at least once a week. This will always ensure your registry files are good, and keep your computer running with no slow, freezing and errors. So if you find yourself asking why is my computer slow, I would check the registry files first.

    Now you can check out

http://www.make-pc-fast.com/ ,there are reviews of top rated registry cleaners and a clear guide to tell you how to speed up your computer. And from there you also can get a free scan to fix any problems such as computers slow, computer freezing, computer errors and getting the blue death screen.

    Hope that can help you.

i am a computer programmer the collage i work for and i use is nod 32 for anti virus and u can download ccleaner for cleaning cookies etc. ever time u get off the net run it u can customise what u want it to clean u can go to www.ccleaner.com hit download and look for filehippo and download it. its great it keeps it clean and fast.
As was suggested, AVG or Antivir, are very good and also free. Also check out this article: http://www.squidoo.com/slow-computer-spe…

However, I'm afraid what you really should do is reinstall windows and all of the software you have.
If your operating system was installed 6 yrs ago, then itd doesn't matter if there are any viruses. Just reinstall OS.

An easy way to check for viruses though is a web scanner:

    http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html
I would recommend Avira Antivir Personal. It is very fast and has a 99.6% accuracy rate, It doesn't slow down your computer, Best of all, It's Free.
6 years! The average computer's life is about 4 years. It could just be that it's ancient.

To answer your question, Kaspersky is supposed to be the best. I think there is a free trial.
i use Bitdefender...i would prefer that one...well any antivirus is able to clean up some viruses...but if it's slow and stuff it's usually better and safer just to reinstall your operating system
The best virus scanner is Norton 360 which is expansive. the reason it's the best because it is all in one.
Norton is not bad,I use Bitdefender myself.
the best viruses are the ones firends give you =)

How to monitor a computer within my home network?

My teenager has her own computer and I have mine. I would like to monitor what she is doing and who she is talking to while online. I do not have any sort of access to her computer, so I will need to monitor her from my own PC. I will also need to do this discreetly to avoid problems (parents you know what I mean). How can I do this? I know the basics about computer usage and internet and yes I do know how to install programs on my computer. Thanks for any help. How to monitor a computer within my home network?
    You have a few options:

    1) Block certain websites like file-sharing, adult content, weapons, etc. using this free service from http://www.opendns.com/

Basically you create a free account and select the types of websites to block, it also keeps a log of the sites visited. You make one quick adjustment with your wireless router or on your teenagers computer. You basically change the IP address for the DNS on either. OpenDNS will give you an IP address to plug in and tells you how to perform this.

    2) You could install computer management software that allows an individual to monitor other computers on the network through watching other users. This is used a lot in education through programs like insight, synchroneyes, schoolvue, etc. There is a free one called iTalc which is very similar to the others and can be found at http://italc.sourceforge.net/
You can download a program called Cain and Abel. ( www.oxid.it ) Once it is set up you can see what sites she is going to and you can see some of what she is typing. When you first start to use it, it is really hard but you sort of get used to how it feels. The program connects to your internet connection and then can monitor what the other person on the network is doing. It is not legal to use on a connection that you do not own. Also when it is open there is no icon so you can just minimize it when someone is walking by so that they wont know what you are doing. Good luck.

How about you give your kid some privacy? If you have reservations about what she is doing online then you shouldn't have given her her own computer.

If you don't trust her then take it away. Have an open conversation about the things that scare you about her being online rather than snooping. Otherwise she's just going to end up resenting you and not trusting you in return.

Just because she's a teenager doesn't mean that she has no right to privacy.
I agree with the other person.

Try being a responsible parent and making responsible decisions.. if you don't want your child doing certain things, either take time out of your busy day and try being a real parent, or don't give your kid a computer to begin with. How to monitor a computer within my home network?

Should I major in computer engineering if the program is not accredited? How important is accreditation?

The university that I currently attend offers Electrical and Computer Engineering and the programs are very similar except for a few different courses. I am in my sophomore year and I changed my major from computer science to EE. I was thinking I would Major in EE and minor in CS, but my advisor feels I should just major in Comp Engineering since I already have a little knowledge. However, the CE program is relatively new so it's not accredited as of yet. I really changed my major because I didn't want to limit myself to computers. But my advisor says the same jobs an EE can get a CE can get. How true is this? And what should I do major in Electrical Eng and Minor in Computer Science or should I just major in Comp. Eng.Should I major in computer engineering if the program is not accredited? How important is accreditation?
If you want to go to some really high rated grad school it is important. As long as your school has ABET accredited engineering programs, the individual department accreditation is not that important. The most important thing is passing the PE when your done. But major in EE because its in demand. With EE you can still be a computer engineer anyway.Should I major in computer engineering if the program is not accredited? How important is accreditation?
I'm a EE and your adviser is quite wrong. CS is primarily programing and sometimes some VHDL logic design. I do transistor level circuit design for a pretty large company and of the 25 people in my department, there is not one CS. EE can do CS stuff but the reverse is not true. Also, stay away from something without accreditation.

Added --- The PE in the US is only needed if you want to do independent consulting. Industry doesn't care about it.Should I major in computer engineering if the program is not accredited? How important is accreditation?
I would major in EE with no minor. I am a CHEG major and it seems like a better major at this time. Although having a PE will be a great career goal four years into your career passing your EIT before you graduate will put you above all of your job competition. I wish I would have taken my EIT my senior year. Some schools require it to graduate.

I have a BT business hub, and there can be 3 or 4 computers, including the PS3 connected wirelessly at anyone time. I use my computer for work and when someone is doing something over the network, like streaming video or playing games my broadband performance suffers.

I would like to know if I can give my computer priority to get what it needs, even at the expense of the other networked computers.

Thanks, Ben.Can I give my computer priority over the others on my wireless network?
    This can be done.

You cannot do it with the home grade routers however.

You need routers and switches that provide 802.1p QoS capability and you need to properly program them. These are substantially more costly than home grade devices.

Look into Adtran Netvanta 1221 R for an integrated managed switch and router that will do the job.

What is the best computer course for somebody who wants to learn how to create a website properly?

    Hi.

I am thinking of taking an online computer course to help me to be able to build and maintain a website, so what type of computer program should I look at? I want a beginning course...........Is that Computer Programming?

Also, what type of course should one take if interested in learning about Computer chips, such as the one used for GPS systems?

Thanks! What is the best computer course for somebody who wants to learn how to create a website properly?
    Easy as 123...

    1. w3schools.com

    2. Adobe Dreamweaver

    3. A lot of patience and time :)What is the best computer course for somebody who wants to learn how to create a website properly?
I would highly recommend using a combination of a textbook and a good reference site (such as w3schools.com) for teaching yourself web programming. Focus first on HTML and then try to work your way into using PHP and/or PERL. You may want to do some tutorials on the BASIC language before moving onto PHP/PERL though to familiarize yourself with the use of variables, logic conditionals, loops, etc.

Computer chips would be far harder to learn. You'd need to learn to learn about circuits, digital logic, different number systems (such as binary and hexidecimal)... it's really quite a mess and a very difficult topic. I'd recommend you move onto that only after you're familiar with other programming languages/techniques.

Best of luck to you! :)What is the best computer course for somebody who wants to learn how to create a website properly?
Well to learn the code itself, the best free online class not really a class though is w3school.com, You want to learn HTML and CSS first (HTML first, then CSS) there are also little quizzes on it , that you can take. You can also use it as a reference, and they have forums if you need debugin help.

Then you wanna get a text editor (notepad++ for windows, espresso or coda for Mac). It's better if you use a raw code editor, but you can also use a WYSIWYG editor. (what you see is what you get) basically a visual way to make websites. Like dreamweaver and muse.

Then you can move on to stuff like JavaScript , php, maybe some mysql.

But if you know HTML, and you just want to know how to efficiently and properly make websites visit webdesign.tutsplus.com (for web designing tips) and net.tutsplus.com (for user interactivity and coding tips and tutorials)

Also take a trip down to the bookstore and browse over some books, you don't have to buy them most bookstores have chairs for you to sit down and read their books.

And just have patience. It takes a little while to learn this, but with patience and determination you can do it!

Whats the difference between computer science and computer informations systems?

What is the difference between a bachelors of science in computer science and a bachelor's of science in computer information systems? Which has more job opportunities and better pay? Which one will help me gain more skills in computers?Whats the difference between computer science and computer informations systems?
Computer science is by far the better choice. You'll learn a lot about programming, computer architecture, and even a little bit about hardware. With such a degree you could work for a software or hardware giant designing new computers and applications.

Information systems deals mostly with installing and maintaining business networks (i.e., being a IT service tech).Whats the difference between computer science and computer informations systems?
Computer Science is the study of engineering and principles involved in the engineering, design, development, integration and testing of computer systems at all levels (my first base course was in Machine Code programming about 25 years ago). This includes applied areas of Math and Science, Materials Engineering, Electrical and Electronics theory and Engineering, and Programming fundamentals.

Computer Information Systems is the use of computers and similar devices (electronic and communications) to process and distribute information by many different means - Digital processing is just one of many forms of distribution.

What exactly does a computer science major do? Is it similar to what a computer engineer does?

I'm a 16 year old sophomore in high school. I recently narrowed what I wanted to do, as far as careers go,down to something involving computers. However, i want a major that allows me to create software and hardware(things like robots,databases,etc.). Can i do this with a computer science degree, or a computer engineering degree, or what? I've researched this, but i did not find anything of use. So, that being said i would really appreciate any HELPFUL answers. Thanks in advance. What exactly does a computer science major do? Is it similar to what a computer engineer does?
Computer science is mostly software. You'll design, create or optimize software, networks or databases using different logical and mathematical concepts.

Computer engineering is more focused in computer architecture, hardware/software interface and digital design (chips, memory, FPGAs, etc) and networking from the hardware point of view.

If you want to deal with robots, you should look into electrical or mechanical engineering with a focus on control systems or industrial automation. The main use for robots are in manufacturing plants, to automate production, construction, packaging and many other processes in order to save man power, increase the speed of the process and get more precision.

Databases and robots are kind of unrelated in terms of coursework even though both require strong knowledge of programming.

  • What causes my computer to take so long to recognize all the drives?

    Good luck

What is the difference between a Desktop Computer VS a Personal Computer?

Is a Desktop Computer the same as opposed to a Personal Computer? I know a Personal Computer is abbreviated as "PC" but what about a typical Desktop Computer? Does it mean the same thing at all??What is the difference between a Desktop Computer VS a Personal Computer?
Yes it is the same...the only thing different is a desktop sits on the desk or floor or anywhere whereas a laptop is portable! Both would be personal computers whereas would be different if it was a buisness or office computer. What is the difference between a Desktop Computer VS a Personal Computer?
Same exact thing. When you say PC, you tend to refer to a computer running Microsoft Windows, but that's just a marketing thing. What is the difference between a Desktop Computer VS a Personal Computer?
they r exactly the same but they called the PC a Desktop coz its not portable so they can make a difference between it and a laptop :)

How do I transfer files from my old computer to my new computer?

I just purchased a new computer. The new computer has Windows XP, USB ports, a Firewire port, RJ 11, and RJ45 port.

The old computer has Windows Vista, USB ports, RJ11, and RJ45(no Firewire).

I need to tranfer my files from the old computer to the new one. What is best way to do this? Software, cables, etc? Windows has a files transfer setting. Will I have a problem since one computer is XP and the other is Vista? How do I transfer files from my old computer to my new computer?
Assuming the computer are not networked, I'd use either a large usb flash drive or an external usb hard disk.

You could burn files to cd..but that would take a while.
i quicker way to do this is do connect both computers via USB lead wait for the divice to be found access it in the (my comuter) aplication and tranfer all across loads quicker!

How do I transfer files from my old computer to my new computer?
Use a flash drive. It is the simplest and the most reliable way.

You can transfer settings without any problem.

Now that you mentioned RJ45, you can connect both computers with a 'crossover cable' one with the leads crimped reversely. You can get it in any computer shack.

Then you add them in a workgroup and share the folders and files.

Then its pointless transfering files in the network. They are available to both computers anyway.
Lots of ways to do this,

    Useing a memory stick,

    Using disks

or if you have the internet set up

you can email all the files to yourself

and then open the files throught your new computer

I am talking very, very basic stuff here. I change the sound preferences to line in and plug in an amp cable, then record with windows sound recorder. Still, what type of computer would be best for this? I'm thinking of various sound cards, handling capacity, which computers won't be overloaded or damaged by having an 80 - 100 watt amp wired into them... things like that.Which computer is best for home recording?

"640K ought to be enough for anybody." - Bill Gates, 1981

What would be good job for me? What certificate might be easy to get to get these jobs? What is the entry level computer science job without computer science degree?
Why don't you do a summer internship (or even take a semester off for an internship)? I'm currently employing an intern who has about a year and a half of comp sci. He worked last semester and is working this summer. He'll go back to school in the Fall with a lot of experience that will help him get through his classes a lot easier. What is the entry level computer science job without computer science degree?
Here are the fields that I see growing:

    Internet Communications

    Video Calling

    Network Security

    OS Programming

    Database Programmer

Programmer of any mainstream language (Java, Flash related)

Anyone that can mix these in any way will have a job pretty much anywhere.

WIVES ONLY! Am I the only wife out there that strictly hates when your husband watches porn?

Does everyone think that is is okay for your husband to lust.. or "pleasure" himself by looking at other women? I feel like I am the only one that is so against it. Especially if he isn't interested in you in bed, while can be interested to the computer. It disgusts me, what do other you other wives say?WIVES ONLY! Am I the only wife out there that strictly hates when your husband watches porn?
Well I am not a wife, but I am a girlfriend of a guy for 2 and a half years now.. And I am also 100% against it. It disgusts me I told him that by him watching porn, I feel he is cheating on me. Him and I have broken up a lot because of it and I will break up with him again if I ever find out he's done it.. Tell your husband how you feel because you deserve a man who is willing to give it up for you. If he is not interested in you in bed, then maybe something bigger is going on..... Is he cheating on you? I'd find out... If not, then maybe you just need to do some things to turn him on. Which will probably be hard. Because I know that after I catch my boyfriend or find out about it, it makes me sick to think of having sex with him at all. And I have a to wait awhile before I will again.

I thought I was the only one too.. But I know that there are other people out there who hate it.
shin m tell him how you feel about his watching porn, if you have before he needs to destroy the computer or at least move it to where is under you view this way he will not be so willing to pleasure himself. but unless you tell him how you feel he will not change, do understand that it is not about you but he seems to have become addicted to it for his own pleasure, I would suggest that he and you both go and see a family counselor; his actions can lead to divorce especially if he ignores you and your needs to be love.WIVES ONLY! Am I the only wife out there that strictly hates when your husband watches porn?
I don't care but he really doesn't watch it very often. And he never tries to hide it. He would only watch it if i wanted to with him. So i really don't mind it but like i said, we don't watch it very often (maybe like once or twice a year) but we have a great sex life. Maybe you should try watching it with him or try different things to get his attention and save your sex life. They have some videos that are more instructional and tell you different things you could try. (I wouldn't watch the nasty ones but the instructional ones can teach you things). It sounds to me that you and your husband need help in the bedroom and maybe he's just watching porn to keep his interests. If i were you, i'd try dressing up or something to respark the flame. To be honest with you, i'd try to do something before he tries to cheat or something to satisfy his needs. Sorry if you don't like the answer but i'd try counseling or anything while you still have the chance.
No, you're not alone. While I've never had an issue with it myself, it WOULD be an issue if he preferred it to being with me, or needed it to get aroused to be with me.

Otheriwse, I'm not the least bit threatened by chicks in porn. He can just as easily use his imagination (porn is just simpler) and you've got no control over what goes through his head. Many people fantasize about others during sex or self pleasuring.

It's up to you to accept being 2nd to porn if he doesn't want to be with you sexually. I'd find that unacceptable.WIVES ONLY! Am I the only wife out there that strictly hates when your husband watches porn?
I'm not a WIFE but I feel the same way. I rip up porn and break cd's, I think it is completely disrespectful and it saddens me that it has become so 'acceptable'. Turn the situation around. He walks in on you looking at hot naked men.. and using it to pleasure yourself. A lot of guys would not like that.
he is getting it on line because you are not giving him what he needs ... you must be a no i dont like that ... dont touch me there ... dont do this .... I have a head ache .... heck we did it last year ... and so on ... clean up your act be ..desireable and he will focus on you ...if you do not know how.... got to a sex therapist alone and the therapsit will be able to help ....good luck ...
Im not married but my boyfriend does not watch porn. His ex made him feel disgusting and evil for watching porn so he dont anymore. I wouldnt mind if he wanted to though, coz i know sometimes he wants to, as long as he still wanted to be with me. If that changed, i think my opinion about it would change too
I AGREE ITS TOTALLY WRONG AND ITS DISGSUTING..AND A MAN WHO NEEDS TO DO THIS HAS SOME SERIOUS PERSONAL ISSUES HE NEES TO DEAL WITH..MY ATITUDE WOULD BE..IF YOU DONT WANT SEX WITH ME GO AND HAVE IT WITH YOUR PORN BABES AND SEE HOW HE GETS ON WITH A SEX ...BAN..FOR A LONG WHILE...HE MIGHT CHANGE HIS TUNE..in these situations the man usually blames the woman for his indulgence so that he does not have to face he has a porblem..plus how many wives will actually do all the perverted things you see in porn?Theres your answer..
I didn't mid if we were watching it together but when he was watching it alone instead of coming to bed at night, or when he was watching it behind my back- that's when I had a problem with it. It became an addiction for him and was too much for me to handle.
CCSeg200 - made a point about saying you need to make yourself desirable to him.Somehow I feel your situation has gone beyond that and that you have probably given up and or refuse to 'compete'. Do you still try? Can you give me some more insight as I really do understand how you would be feeling.
mine does not watch it. but if he did i would feel exactly the way you do. i do not see the point of it. it would make me feel like i wasnt enough. maybe u should talk to him and tell him how u feel? i hope u sort it out with each other and things get better.
    Ummm you're weird.
y would u let yr husband watch porn??? that's so stupid! doesn't he have any respect for you???!!!

It is so easy to overcook; that is to use too many effects.

Assuming your singer can actually sing in tune then all you would generally need is a tasteful touch of reverb.

Actully one thing I want to know is what is the TV tuner that comes with the PC if I select yes.Is this a good HP Computer?
It seems solid, though I must tell you- You ARE going to over-pay for this setup if you are ordering off a HP website. It is far cheaper to order the parts separately and assemble it yourself, there is also a feeling of reward. If you want to spend less money and learn something about computers, head over to Newegg.com they will teach you everything you need to know about computers, so you will actually learn many things that you probably already didn't know. Yes that set-up is fine, but take my advice- don't be lazy, take your time, for it will be worth it.Is this a good HP Computer?
Too easy. Just select no on the TV tuner and order one yourself. I'd suggest avermedia brand, as it works perfectly with windows media center, right out of the box.

You're going to have to order a different power supply anyway, something like a Seasonic S12II 520W, for example. HP doesn't offer any good quality power supplies.

So if this is the system you really want, make two orders:

Order the system without the TV tuner

Then go to newegg.com to order a power supply and TV tuner

    Done!

PLEASE help (:What equipment to buy with a microphone?
Most sound cards have an input, you just need to check what size the jack is on your computer. There are two common sizes - 1/8 inch "mini" jacks, and 1/4 inch "phono" jacks. There are very cheap adapters available. Vafam Sound on ebay is a great source for cables - good quality for cheap.

The adapter you will need will be an XLR-female to mini TRS with a 6' cable. If the computer does have a phono jack, then just get a mini to phono adapter (about $3).

Total cost to get it into your computer; about $15 plus shipping.

You would have enough left over to get a cheap mixer, like a little 2 channel soundcraft or something.

鈥?Now that you can see what and how much you have, separate your items into categories (i.e. files, post-its %26amp; paper pads, writing utensils, paper clips, binder clips, and so on).

    Store:

鈥?Take a damp cloth and some cleaning solution, and give your desk a good wipe down before returning the categorized items to it.

鈥?The kind of desk you have determines how and where to store your categorized items.

鈥?Let's say you have a corner desk with a few shallow drawers and a file drawer. Use the shallow drawers to hold your office supplies and the file drawer for your active (often referenced) files. Use some desk space for a desktop organizer to hold some office supplies, a file rack for the files you reference daily, and a paper tray for action items or incoming papers.

鈥?Or let's say you have just a desk top with two shelves above it that run the length of the desk. Since you have no storage cabinets or drawers, utilize decorative but functional boxes to label and separate your office supplies.

    Maintain:

鈥?Take 5-10 minutes at the end of each day to put items in their proper places. This simple task will maintain your initial desk organization efforts.

鈥?A few times a year, go through your desk and get rid of all unnecessary items. This keeps your work space current and ready for the constant cycle of paper and supplies going in and out.

Hope this helps and good luck! How to organize my desk?
Make it a habit to put everything away and off the top of your desk so you can have "a clean slate" to work on. each time you sit down. Find other surfaces for your "stuff." A simple vase of flowers or a cup of pencils is all you need if anything. Utilize the desk drawers so they work for you for storage. How to organize my desk?
You should use organizing materials like binders, folders and even book ends for your books. You can use the link I provided if you would like to buy some.
I'd wait for the tiny pot plant to get bigger, smoke some, and see what ideas come to mind.
