I have a new tv in one room and a 2006 Dell Windows XP Desktop in another room. I'd like to hook them up so I can watch free tv on my new tv in the other room. My tv is a sanyo LED/HD. What cable or adaptor do I need to hook up between the two? My tv has a vga port but couldn't find one on my old Dell. How do I hook my computer to my tv?
dvi or hdmi is ideal for your new tv. a dvi to hdmi cable, and a 1/8" male/ male for audio, or optical out sound cable. check amazon because gold plated cables with shipping might be cheaper than going to radioshack or bestbuy. How do I hook my computer to my tv?

First of all, will the tv be a second monitor to your pc or the main monitor? if the tv is going to be the main monitor then vga to vga cable will do the job (the tv will be the pc monitor). if the tv is going to be a second monitor (duplicate, extended, etc), then you will need to make sure that your pc can support a second monitor (depends on the video card). Second, what can your pc output? VGA, HDMI, DVI, S-Video, etc. Third, what can your tv input support? VGA, DVI, HDMI, S-Video, etc. Keep in mind hdmi and dvi support digital signals, they wont connect to analog (VGA, S-Video, etc). You can connect hdmi to hdmi cable, hdmi to dvi, vga to vga, vga to hdmi ( you will need a converter), vga to dvi ( you will need a converter), S-video to S-video, S-Video to RCA, S-Video to composite ( S-Video does not support sound so make sure you can get sound with a seperate cable).
