What computer should I get?

Sorry, I know this Ali's a commen question.

What laptop should I get. I love photography and film and hope to go to an art institute for film production once I graduate high school. I've used PC and MAC, and like both. Honestly I use Macs a lot because that's what my school uses and would like to do the same. I'm a techy guy but I really don't know much about computers (cameras, video cameras, phones, and recording equipment is another story though). I would love to own a Mac but I don't want the hate from my programmer friends who would never let me live it down. What is my best choice for anti virus on pc and Mac. One of the main reasons I'm ditching my old computer is because of all the viruses I got trying to download free editing software (and failing at that). Now I can afford the software I want so I should be able to avoid viruses . A determining factor to me is the look of it itself. I love the clean 聽look of apples, but now there's that new hp envy and stuff like that. Could I dress up a Mac so people don't notice it as much. I don't want to be in the category as those stupid hipsters with there over exposed pictures and Eco cars with there one speed bikes (ugh)! I don't really need to worry about funds, I just want something that will really last me and do good. What computer should I get?

http://www.pricewatch.com/notebooks/ (check out this site it compares all laptop prices across web and shows you the cheapest)

Do NOT get a MAC. If you get an average Windows computer for $400, the MAC version of it will cost $1000. Despite what you hear, MACS are the same as other computers...they just have a different operating system than windows. You are essentially spending $500+ on a subpar operating system that cant even run most videogames and software.

The whole virus thing was completely out of control from the late ninetys till the late 2000s. This isnt a problem anymore....Windows provides automatic updates that makes it so you wont get viruses. I havnt seen a virus pop up on a windows machine in 2 years....it was a problem in the past because people didnt have antivirus software, but you dont even need antivirus software now because its within Windows....You can get free antivirus software for free(AVG.com) if you are going to be downloading a bunch of porn or something though. Virus infection is based upon user rates. Windows got viruses, not because its inferior, but because 90% of the world's population uses windows....once Mac gets more popular(god forbid) more and more viruses will appear.

Ive noticed that macs get really slow after a couple years, and that the newer windows PCs stay lightning fast. Its all about the parts inside the computer that matters. Apple uses the same parts(intel, AMD, NVIDIA), but charges 200% more for them. If you buy Apple, you are getting a machine that is 200% overpriced, lacks customizability, lacks freedom, lack choice, and is completely overated because their other product(Iphone) is good.

Ok your best bet is took look around online for a PC. If you are getting a non-laptop I would build it yourself....You can build a computer that can run everything for a couple hundred bucks(something mac would charge 2000 for). If your getting a laptop look around online.

DO NOT BUY IN A STORE. Compare prices online....most stores are a ripoff all the time. Look at these following sites....

NewEgg.com (cheap good site with user reviews...good place to research whats good)
Pricewatch.com (compares prices from around web)

If you arnt on a budget...I would get something with the new intel core 7 processors. 8gigs or plus ram. AMD processors are just fine though and half the price. I would get a cheaper AMD and focus on a better videocard if you do have somewhat of a budget Most importantly though make sure it has a GOOD VIDEOCARDS. Videocards are the most complex thing in a computer and what make it so it can run incredible graphics now and in the future. So many computer companies put shitty videocards in them because the consumer doesnt know how important they are.

Here are some examples of ones you should buy

$2,500ish = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152303
$1,500ish = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152304
$1,000ish = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834246326
$800ish = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834200347
$500ish = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834157822
$200ish = http://3btech.net/hpco6715winc1.html

If you dont mind spending extra money, and you want something that looks super bad ***...check out alienware.com. There gaming computers, but when it says gaming...it pretty much just means the most advanced and complicated graphics and programs...very future-proof
All in all, brand name doesnt really matter....It is the parts inside(processor, ram, videocard, HD, Mobo) that matter the most.

.Just do your research on newegg.com, then compare prices on pricewatch.com. GOOD LUCKWhat computer should I get?
If you can work between MAC and PC and know how to transfer/swap files between them, I'd stick with a PC. However, if you know the course/school you go on only uses MACs then consider a MAC since they probably don't want the hassle of having an orphan PC user to troubleshoot non-MAC issues.

If you need to get on a mainly MAC network, stick with MAC.

Best advice really is to chat with the IT guys at the University to find out what direction to go.

Just make sure you chat to someone from the right dept.
