Building your own is indeed the best way of having your own gaming PC. It is not that hard, it is fun actually because of the fact that you are learning something new and essential. It is just like playing with lego, you could watch tutorials at youtube and ask further questions here at yahoo answers regarding compatibility issues (which are actually very basic).

For mid-settings in gaming and some on high settings on 1080p (Most affordable but very decent)

GPU : HD6870 (is okay), gtx 560 ti/ HD6950 (much better)

HDD : 1 TB 7200 rpm

here is a customizable PC just choose to upgrade the graphics card also if a laptop doesn't get dropped or anything like that as long as the specs are the same it work just as well and last just as long
